Impregnated Diamond Core Bits
These core bits contain synthetic diamond powder mixed with metal powder inside the matrix, the cutting part of the core bit. The right balance between quantity of metal powder and quantity of diamond achieves the right alloy for every type of rock, according to the hardness, abrasiveness and fragmentation of the rock. These core bits drill until they wear out completely the height of impregnation, renewing step by step the diamond layers. They work on grinding principle and they are generally suitable for drilling hard materials. Bit cooling and the flushing of the cuttings are provided by water, sometimes by polymers added to water.
